The standard yoga mat is made of PVC (polyvinyl chloride), a toxic plastic that is non-biodegradable. Recently, manufacturers have started making eco-friendly yoga mats made from natural rubber; plant fibers such as jute, hemp and cotton; and alternative, non-toxic plastics such as PER (polymer environmental resin) and TPE (thermal plastic elastomer).
